1. Building
Use your pickaxe to break down trees for wood, walls for brick, and all metal for, well, metal. If you tear down too many trees or huge buildings, your position will be given away, so it can be beneficial to extract as many resources as possible from an area while leaving the structure intact. As you swing your pickaxe, you can aim at highlighted points to earn double materials - remember that this also causes double damage to the object or structure.
For reference, the standard staircase "four walls and a ramp" consumes 50 of the materials you have available - so it is worth keeping as many as possible on your person.
Even though wood is the weakest material in Fortnite, it can be built faster than brick or metal — so keep something in reserve if you can.
While building your own cover is an integral part of the fight for survival, a match of Fortnite is also decided by the positioning.
Their building blocks come in four forms, but one of the most important is the ramp. This allows you to climb some of the more difficult highlights in the world. Some may have untapped materials at the top, while others are simply full of treasures. Of course, they also provide great sniper spots if you have the weapon for it.
Since the construction of Fortnite is not limited to the physics of the real world, this also means that you can descend from one of these highlights and build a series of "steps" on the way down. Since drop damage is an important consideration as you approach the business end of a game, you can quickly and with minimal damage work your way down the side of a mountain to flank an opponent who is targeting the top of a mountain.
1.1 Editing
The fun doesn't stop just because you've built a structure to heaven. By editing characters that you have already placed, you can open up new ways of fighting and crossing to catch an opponent really unprepared.
The best Fortnite players understand the importance of optimizing what has already been built, such as turning a wall into an arch or door to open a new line of sight. In fact, each of the four basic building blocks of the game can be optimized in this way.
This means that when you land over your opponent, you can work a piece of the ground to open a gap through which you can shoot.
Of course, this should also be seen as something to look out for when navigating through an opponent's structure. Nowhere is safe in Fortnite, and that's double if you're ten stories up while chasing an enemy!
2. Zone
The storm and the safe zone advance in stages:
1. On the map, a circle of storms will appear, indicating where the current safe zone will shrink.
2. In its current size and location, the existing safe zone waits a set amount of time (wait time).
3. After a given period of time, the safe zone begins to decrease (Shrink Time).
4. The storm completely shrinks to its new location and comes to a halt.
5. Repeat steps 1–5 until you reach the last safe zone.
6. After waiting, the final safety zone shrinks to zero.
Each storm circle has a smaller radius than the preceding one and a center that is chosen at random.
Safe Zones 1–4 do not move ; instead, they contract into a storm circle centered within the current safe zone.
2.1 Zone stages in competitive game modes
In competitive game types, Safe Zones 5 and up are "mobile," meaning they can shrink into a circle of storms located anywhere outside of the current safe zone.
In safe zones 7, 8, and 9, there is no waiting time : when the storm reaches the circle for safe zones 7, 8, and 9, it goes to the next place immediately.
2.2 Zone stages in traditional game modes
The first safe zone in regular game mode encompasses the entire island and is not shown on the map.
The first storm circle will appear on the map 1 minute after the combat bus crosses the map.
3. Rotation
When it comes to Fortnite, you'll need a few essential skills to succeed: weapon control, great building, and material management. But, probably most importantly, you must learn how to rotate in Fortnite, a skill that is often overlooked.
3.1 Move Early
The storm will wait for no one. If you find yourself on the outer edges of the storm in the initial circles you should move to get into the new zone as soon as it appears on the map.
Moving quickly gives you options. Players that move late will find themselves running similar paths in an attempt to get into the zone, this is when a lot of early/mid game engagements happen. Also, as more players get into the zone they will set up base and patrol the storm line – waiting for those that moved too late and making it hard for them to get to safety.
3.2 Do not engage unless you have to
In Fortnite, engage any and all enemies you can see will spell disaster for you. Even if you win the engagement, the resources you use during the fight, like materials and healing items, will cost you further down the line.
That is not to say never take a fight on early game. A contested landing spot will usually need to be fought over, and if you are very confident you can down the enemy quickly it may be a good idea.
But if you are trying to get into zone consider weigh up the pros and cons of any fight. Getting into zone and getting some frags later may be the best option.
3.3 Gain height
In later circles, gaining height either in a tower or using natural elevation found in the map will give you the greatest chance of success. It will give you the most information about other players movements, allow you to beam opponents from above and make it easier to move into the new circle.
4. Competitive
Competitive tournaments can be found on the Compete tab in Fortnite: Battle Royale. This tab hosts a variety of online competitions, the availability of which may depend on the player's arena rankings. It is important to note that you must be at least 13 years old to enter tournaments.
In order to dominate in Competitive you have to master the first three tips from me.
